Sattai Durai Murugan is a social activist, YouTuber, and also known as a staunch Tamil nationalist. He is famously known for his political commentary without holding back. Commonly known as ‘Sattai’, he was connected with Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK). He became broadly known by his YouTube channel “Sattai” and his involvement in Tamil social issues. Due to his confrontational style, he got involved in controversies and was arrested for his outraged speeches against the political leaders. Consequently, he has been condemned as well as applauded.
He came into the limelight while being arrested for supposedly threatening to attack a person. Also, he is best known for his political criticism combined with satire.
Early Life and Education
Sattai was born and brought up in Tamil Nadu. His father’s name is Singarvelu.
He completed his graduation by earning the B.Sc. degree in Mathematics. He graduated from Sadakathullah Appa College (located in Palayamkottai, Tirunelveli). Later, he completed his MBA from Annamalai University.
For nine years, he has worked as a medical representative.
Initially, he worked in the Indian Army and later transited into social work and spreading awareness via his YouTube channel, where he spoke about Tamil nationalism and concerns of the region.

Career
He joined the Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) in 2010 due to two key reasons. The first is his passion towards the Tamil language. The second reason is that he was unable to manage the situation where the Indian political parties in Tamil Nadu indicated indifference and abandoned the people in the massacre in Eelam. His joining of NTK is viewed as an alternate force to Dravidian and National parties.
Subsequently, he has been involved in different posts in the party. These posts are namely the state youth wing secretary and the state speaker. Currently, he is a Policy Propagation Secretary in NTK.
While being involved in NTK, he provokes to the level that he, alongside others, outbursts at marches and meetings for the identity and rights of Tamil people. Due to his stubborn and aggressive speech-making style, he got so much popular on the Internet. As a result, he has a huge fan following, particularly the Tamil youth.
Note that Sattai has been arrested several times. The majority of these arrests were due to his aggressive and controversial comments made against the political figures as well as his statements about the LTTE and the Tamil leaders. Notwithstanding the issues, he is still active in the socio-political space of the state.
He was a NTK candidate in the Tamil Nadu Assembly election (election from Tirukkoyilur (AC-76)) but he lost.
He started his YouTube channel in 2018. Currently, the channel has over 6.75 million subscribers.

Sattai has played a character role in the movie entitled Pettikadai. The movie featured Chandini Tamilarasan, Samuthirakani, and Varsha Bollamma in the lead roles. Also, he has acted in Senthamizhan Seeman and RK Suresh’s forthcoming movie Ameera.

Cases
In 2018, MDMK cadres came to attack NTK cadres at Trichy Airport. He went on to stop the MDMK cadres and got arrested. In 2019, a case was filed against him for speaking about death of Rajiv Gandhi.
It was June 2021 when the Tamil Nadu government unfairly charged him with assault. This was because he gave a book on Prabhakaran to a man who had written critical things about the leader and attempted to dishonor him. Due to this, he was arrested for 58 days in prison, in the Trichy Prison.
He was bailed from these cases in October, 2021. After that, he participated in a protest conducted by Senthamizhan Seeman (the chief coordinator of NTK in Thakalai). He showed his frustration with the Tamil Nadu government. He claimed that being a fellow citizen, he can’t accept that the government is abolishing Tamil Nadu’s mountains for mining stones for a private port which would be built in Kerala.
DMK cadres revealed that the Tamil Nadu administration and the Chief Minister were criticized in his address during the demonstration. A case was filed against him after which, two offense lawsuits were filed against him in Dharmapuri and Tiruvidaimarudur. So, he was imprisoned for 53 days in the Palayamkottai jail.
For the same, he was retained under Goondas Act in January 2022 and so was imprisoned in Puzhal Jail for seven months. In July 2022, Madras HC discharged him.
A case of sedition was filed against him in Thiruvallur Police Station in December 2021. The reason is he posted a video on his YouTube channel wherein he appealed that workers at the Foxconn factory in Sriperumbudur were suffering due to food contamination in the ladies hostel. Also, in the video, he claimed that he was in favor of the workers’ strike at the factory. As a result, Tiruvallur district police arrested him.
